Core Values
1. Have Fun
- We ride our bikes because we love to ride. We will train hard, we will race hard, but we will never lose site of the primary objective: HAVE FUN!
2. Team Camaraderie
- We ride together to share our passion for cycling. We will always strive for team camaraderie and friendship. We are not only teammates, we are friends.
- We will support and encourage each other either in success or when not so successful.
- We will respect each other. Humor at the expense of one another is expected but will remain good natured and appropriate.
- We will respect each individual’s goals, whether they are racing or simply fitness related.
- As often as possible we will ride together.
- When we ride together we will make every effort to never “drop” a teammate. Any member falling behind can expect faster riders to loop back to pick them up.
- We will never leave a teammate behind due to a flat or mechanical issue.
- We will race together as a team, not individuals.
- We will establish a team camp at races to support each other, show our colors, and demonstrate team unity.
- At multi-category/all day events such as criteriums, team members are encouraged to come early and/or remain after their own event to support and cheer on all teammates of every category.
3. Communication
- Team leadership will provide frequent communication to all team members regarding team activities and initiatives. In turn team members are expected to provide communication to the team leaders regarding any issue or important aspect of team activities.
- Team leadership will provide detailed minutes of all meetings to all team members.
- A monthly summary of the team’s financial status will be made available to all team members.
- Team communication within a public forum (such as Yahoo groups) shall be respectful. Conflicts between members shall be handled through private communication, not through public discourse.
4. Professionalism
- We are not professionals but we will strive to act and look like professionals within the cycling community.
- Whether as an individual or as a group we will represent our team and our sponsors in a professional manner.
- Obey traffic laws.
- Be respectful to motorists, whether they are respectful to us or not.
- Be respectful to all cyclists and other teams.
• We train & race hard; conflicts will occur, but we must remember we represent not only ourselves, but our team, our teammates, and our sponsors. Rise above the conflict and we will gain much more respect then we would by participating in it.
- When possible, team kits reflecting current sponsors should be worn while racing.
- As often as possible team kits should be worn while on training rides, particularly on group rides.
- Ride your bike in a safe and responsible manner, always wear a helmet.
- Keep your bike in a clean and maintained state. Your equipment reflects on you and your team.
5. Team Contribution
- Team contribution may come in a variety of ways. We will not expect each member’s interests or goals to be strictly race related. The idea is to add to the club in some positive way, whether it is through racing, leadership, volunteering, or other activities that support our mission.
- All team members are expected to contribute in some way to annual San Tan Racing events unless excused by team leadership.
- To be a team member you must be current in your dues. If your dues are not current, you are not a team member.
- Attend as many team meetings, rides, races, and social events as possible.
6. Diversity
- San Tan Racing is a diverse organization of individuals of varying skill, interests, and goals. We will respect each of our differences in this regard.
- San Tan Racing will not distinguish between or show favor of members based on gender, religious belief, cultural background, or ethnicity.
7. Sponsorship Support
- San Tan Racing team members are expected to honor sponsorship agreements. It is our sponsors that make what we love to do possible.
- San Tan Racing is proud to have Paragon Cycling as our sponsoring bike shop. Team members will provide Paragon Cycling with their business whenever possible.
- When possible, team kits reflecting current sponsors should be worn while racing.
- All team members should always be alert for new sponsorship opportunities. Seeking and maintaining sponsorship does not belong to the Sponsorship Director alone, it belongs to all of us.
8. Quality/Controlled Growth
- Team members are encouraged to actively seek quality individuals who they feel may fit within our team dynamic. Potential new members should be someone who will add to the team in any manner that supports our core values.
- While growth in our team roster may be one measurement of success, we will seek to control our growth in a manageable fashion. It’s not about numbers, it’s about quality.
- Success on the racing circuit is one of our goals, but not at the expense of team integrity.
9. Community Involvement
- San Tan Racing will strive to be a leader in and positively contribute to the cycling community (racing and non-racing).
